Gilbert Arizona


Gilbert Arizona, is a town located just outside of Phoenix, Az. Once known as the country's biggest hay distribution town, it sits within Phoenix's metropolitan area. Today, it is the six largest community in Arizona and the fifth largest in Phoenix. The region is rapidly developing and has become very popular in the last 30 years. It is known as one of the safest and best places to live in America.

History The area was founded by William Bobby Gilbert in the early 1900s, when he donated land to build the rail line between Phoenix and Florence, Arizona. The town's first grocery store was established in 1912. Later, the post office was built on the east side of Gilbert Arizona. By 1915, immigrating Mormons began to populate the town. They made the first school and church in Gilbert Az. In the 1900s, because of the new rail line and the project of the construction of Roosevelt Dam, Gilbert Arizona grew exponentially. At that time, it was known as the "Hay capital" of the world.

A Municipality of Phoenix In modern times, Gilbert Az, is a part of the Phoenix metropolitan area and has over 300,000 people. The town continues to expand because it offers a friendly place to live for people moving to the Phoenix area. Gilbert has recently been named the fourth safest community in Arizona and the 12th most livable town in the United States.


Things To do in Gilbert Visitors are often surprised by the number of things activities there are to do in Gilbert. Whether you are a new resident to the area or just visiting family and friends for a few days, here is a list of some of the most exciting activities you can do in Gilbert.

Riparian Preserve If you enjoy nature, you'll want to visit the Riparian Preserve where some of the most fantastic bird species have been found. Birdwatchers have listed more than 200 different species in this area. Be sure to go on the Autobahn Arizona Family Bird walk that happens every third Saturday of the month from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. Even if you can't make one of those lovely bird watching events, be sure to visit the park. It's a beautiful place for a picnic.

Hale Center Theater Don't miss out on the Hale Center Theater production. All shows are family-friendly and known for their beautiful Productions. The theater is also known for its great Children's Theater programs.

Downtown Gilbert The downtown area has many things to do, even though it's only a few blocks wide. Here you'll find great BBQ, Mexican and Italian restaurants. It can be a great time to do some window-shopping or just take some pictures of the old western-style streets. And if you happen to be there on a Saturday morning, you can enjoy the beautiful Farmers Market located just behind the water tower.


St. Anne's Roman Catholic Church Saint Ann's Church combines traditional church and Hi-Tech accessories in a very tasteful way. It welcomes every person no matter what the denomination. Enjoy walking through the church and seeing the full-sized replica Michaelangelos La pieta within the church. Freestone Park Enjoy walking or riding your bike through this park that has an attraction for every person in the family. Enjoy playing a game of volleyball, basketball, or tennis in the respective courts. Skaters also enjoy a beautiful skating area. There are picnic tables, barbecue grills, and six shaded areas for beautiful get-togethers. Besides the sports areas, there is a lovely lake stocked with fish for fishermen. For the little ones, there's an amusement area with a mini Ferris wheel and carousel. All areas are accessible to wheelchairs.
